Unlike the many well-built, attractive heroes and heroines found in major novels and comics such as Superman, Meg Murry is considered a “monster” and quite “repulsive-looking”, the same words she used to describe herself: She has a plain appearance with unruly, mouse-brown hair, and the appropriate braces and glasses to complement her ugliness. Quite the contrary, without her glasses her eyes are unexpectedly beautiful, or “dream-boat”, as her friend Calvin would say. All in all though, she is an unattractive character.
